Hi All,
I'm trying to write a quick explanation on the structure of an apt-get sources.list file. I'm coming up against a wall in that I can figure out the first part of each line (clearly the http or ftp connection and address to the repository) but I'm having trouble reading the rest of th line. Originally I thought it was just a directory strcuture, but in some experimentation I've found that this may not be the case.
For example, the line:
deb http://nonus.debian.org/debian-non-US stable/non-US main contrib non-free
I understand to mean that the repository is located at 'nonus.debian.org/debian-non-US' and the connection is to be made via the http protocol, but then I get confuzzled on how to read the rest.
I'm trying to write this little explanation for an entry on Newlinuxuser.com. Is there anyone out there that would like to either:
a) give me quick rundown on how to read a sources.list file, or
b) write a quick (2-3 paragraphs) explanation as a 'guest writer' (with full credit and a link to wherever you'd like) which I can then post on Newlinuxuser.com?
Perhaps contacting me off list is the best idea.
For the record, I'm always looking for little howto's and explanations for stuff like this to throw on Newlinuxuser.com. There's always an open invitation to send me articles (again, 3 paragraph-ish in length) explaining or teaching anything GNU/Linux-ish.
Thanks!
Jon
