actually, it helped a great deal. i switched back to the previous theme and now both evolution and k3b work fine.
maybe i'll take it slow next time and only change one...thing...at...a...time. thanks again CLUG! i don't know what i'd do without the kind and generous help of everyone here. my thanks again!
