The September general meeting will be a "Special Meeting" in accordance with our bylaws, as we will be taking a vote. Tier 2 members will receive an email sent directly to them (in addition to this message to the list) regarding this announcement. Everyone is encouraged to attend the meeting, however only Tier 2 members may take part in the vote.
There issue of CLUG doing a "large event" has come up a number of times in the past. After some discussions, and initial investigations, it seems feasible for us to throw a "LinuxFest". The exec discussed this further at our last meeting, and the general feel is that we (as a group) can do this and it is in accordance with the purpose of CLUG. We have voted to proceed with planning, part of which is to put it to CLUG's members for their official input. A LinuxFest is basically one or more days of lectures, lessons, workshops, or tutorials. This may also include booths pertinent to the lectures, or highlighting local organizations who are using Linux/Open Source. We would likely see some big names coming out for the event, and possible sponsorship by some large companies. For some info on what is involved, check out these links: http://www.ohiolinux.org/ http://linuxnorthwest.org/ http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/8339 http://channels.lockergnome.com/it/archives/20050503_linuxfest_success.phtml As we are in the initial stages of planning, there are many details we just do not have at this time. However, we are currently thinking this should be done in the first week of May. So we have a fair bit of time to get everything in order. What details we do have will be expressed at the meeting prior to the vote.
