LOL I have just recently installed KDE from scratch on my new AMD64 box (amd64 processor, with 1GB ram), which is running Gentoo. It took 8 hours. (I timed it cuz I was curious - "time emerge kde" was the command). This includes compiling X and all the dependencies. 8 hours is a long time, but it's a huge improvement on the 48 hours my previous box took.... :) hmmm... how many hours of cycling would it take to get up to 48 hours of compile time??
