I actually left the gui stuff on my server as I use freenx to remote in
and do things like burn CDs and DVDs from k3b.  I also tend to use this
box for email and web browsing (also via the NX connection) and p2p
searching and downloading.

The hardest thing is likely to have an LDAP authentication with
everything authenticating (samba, ssh, printing) against the directory.
The O'Rielly book is good if not a little dry.  There are also excellent
howtos on the samba site as well as the openldap site.

I like to do things the hard way which tends to take longer.
