Further to my original post: The application of the technology is going to be such that someone with a barcode reader (i.e. Symbol), a Palm OS or PocketPC PDA with have a barcode reader attached and will be able to enter information into a form (possibly excel spreadsheet or similar with the probable output of a *.cvs file).
That unit would then sync with the desktop and feed into a desktop application (likely excel or similar). The *.cvs file would be submitted and the form from the pda would have the remaining feilds completed and then printed off.
