Do you have any NFS mounted file systems ? or any mounted file systems in your home directory ?

I've ran into an issue and I'm not really sure where to begin in fixing it. I have a box with Debian installed (via Knoppix) and it is a minimal install. For the past couple of months now I've noticed a dramatic drop in response time when doing a listing "ll" of files in my /home/username/ directory, (about 10 seconds) In other directories there is an instant response. The filesystem is EXT3. All other directries seem fast. If I do an "ls" it is fast it is with the -l flag that seems to slow things down. Ideas?
