I'll second the idea of analog. I've used it now for a couple of years on my servers (logs.open2space.com), and have found it very stable, and very easy to configure (with a bit of reading into the various options for a configuration file). It is currently processing a log file that has almost a years worth of entries.
I really like the look of report magic, but haven't yet tried it out - the default analog reports were suitable for my purposes. At the time, I had tried webalizer, and awstat, and felt both to be a little clunky. That said, I know awstat has improved, and I should give it another try. My two cents.
