When you say the live CD, you mean the newest version (Hoary)? With the installed version, did you install Hoary, or the older version (Warty)?
I'm wondering if the live cd version omitted some drivers for the sake of fitting the distro on a CD. This would explain some of the problems I had, so maybe I should try Warty... (I'm sure there is a good reason for those names, but I can't ever see them being used in the corporate world...) Thanks for the tip.
