Memory Express is accepting old equipment but may be a fee involved.

Here is what is posted on their site (www.memoryexpress.com):

Memory Express and Electronic Recycling Association of Alberta organize
Calgary's Computer roundup.
Memory Express Computer Products Inc. and Electronic Recycling
Association of Alberta aim to prevent all unwanted computers and
monitors from ending up in the landfill by offering to accept them back
from individuals and companies at the Memory Express locations
throughout Calgary and Edmonton.

Memory Express will now accept computers, monitors, and parts for reuse
and recycling at their store. Computers no longer useful to you can now
be donated through Memory Express to be used in the programs offered by
the Electronic Recycling Association. Some of those programs include
donations to 3rd world countries of refurbished computers and
televisions, donations to local charities, low-income families, people
with disabilities, etc.

Accepted items include computers, monitors, laptops, hard drives, and
other computer peripherals. These items may be dropped off at
participating Memory Express locations and processed for a small
environmental fee. The fee will cover the costs of collection,
transportation and recycling of electronics material, education and
awareness programs and electronics recycling related research.

The Electronic Recycling Association of Alberta collects equipment from
companies and individuals for reuse or recycling. This program will
increase the amount of equipment that is put through their program. All
collected items are tested, repaired and reused. Reuse is the main
strongpoint of the E.R.A since it doesn't require burning of any energy
or additional resources. All unusable or non-repairable equipment is
sent to specialist recyclers who can recover small amounts of precious
metals from these items or recycle the plastics and metals found in most
electronic equipment.

Memory Express is striving to be an industry leader in the recycling of
computer products and is taking the initiative in preventing items they
sell from ending up buried forever. People who drop off their computers
can purchase a newer, more environmentally friendly model at the same time.

|     Hello All;
|
| Starting on February 1st, 2005 the Alberta Government will
| be implementing it's Electronics Recycling Tax. This tax will be
| placed on the vast majority of consumer and business electronics,
| some of which include TV's, Computers, Monitors, Lap-tops, and
| Printers. The fees for such products may vary depending on size (in
| the case of TV's). This fee must be charged on these products
| without exception.
|
| Here is the breakdown on the proposed charges that will
| effect us directly:
|
| - Computer System = $10.00
|
| - Computer Monitor = $12.00
|
| - Printer = $8.00
|
| - Notebooks = $5.00
|
| As you can see, the average system will rise in price by
| $22.00, which is non-refundable at any point. Based on this
| information, I would recommend if you have any planned purchases in
| the next 3 months or so for anything electronic, to pick it up this
| month.
