Think your math is a bit off here. 

5mbit is equal to 5000 kilobits/second, divide by 8 bits in a byte and
you get a best case download speed of about 625 kilobytes/second (and an
upload of 125 kb/sec).

Compare this to what I get over my Telus adsl of about 180kb/sec down
and 65kb/sec up. So really, assuming a 300kb/sec download speed on a
cable modem, your looking at around 2.4mbits down.

Always divide by 8 to get the real picture. 100mbit/sec divided by 8 is
12.5 MB/sec of actual data.

No, but I have looked into Telus's highest speed adsl business option
which is 4mbit/1mbit. I'd be tempted to go with them as they don't seem
too concerned about how much data you move, whereas I've had to talk to
Shaw a few times in the past.
