I think that things such as ovens and refrigerators use 240 here, but I
don't lmpw of anything else NEEDS it. I think it is just a choice that
was made at some point. It was the same when I was in South Africa. I
had to get a voltage converter so I could charge my laptop. I still
have no idea why there are two standards, but 240 may be more common
(Europe+Africa, I'm not sure about Asia)?

No the UK sockets are MUCH wider the voltage is 240 and 60 not 50
cycles. Max amperage 13, you do NOT want to take a jolt from this!

A quick question:
Does the UK standard "common" wall power plug looks similar to the
north american one, but is slightly narrower? I wonder what voltage,
amperage and the frequency they use...

Hi folks,
When I was back in the UK, I managed to amass quite a collection
of PC
power cords. Now I'm over here I'm stuck for them and local
stores want
to charge me ~$16 apiece.
Does anyone have any going spare? I'd gladly take them off your
hands at
the meeting tonight.
Alternatively, anyone know where I can get them for a more
reasonable>>price? I probably need about 5 or 6.
Cheers,
Chris.
Check Round-Again Software (on 17th Ave just west of 1st St.NE)
also - they
have bins of various cables at low prices. If memory serves, the
power cords
are a couple of bucks apiece.

Why am I scared of Windows? Let's just say I will be glad I have my Knoppix CD.
