Hello All,

I have poured over my fstab file in the /etc directory and have noticed
something as follows:

in the /etc directory and fstab file when I did an ls -l and got a line:

/dev/fd0 /floppy vfat,auto defaults, user, noauto 0 0

I noticed that after vfat , auto defaults applies presumably as root, but that
as user the noauto option applies. If I wanted every user to have
automounting of the floppy drive, would I change the line in fstab to the
following?:

/dev/fd0/floppy vfat,auto defaults, user, auto defaults 0 0

??

If that were so, then I could give every user the ability to automount the
floppy drive.

I will be at the Calgary Linux Users' Group meeting tonight and you could tell
me whether it would be safe to do the above change.

From my reading of chapters one to six of "Running Linux" it seems that the
above change will accomplish my goal of giving every user the option of
automounting the floppy whenever a user puts a floppy in the floppy drive as
a user.

But I do not want to do anything dangerous, so I will see if anyone at the
meeting tonight confirms my suspicions.

Regards,

Michael Walters
