To Those folks interested in the LPI-SG:

I was talking with the head of IT for our company about utilizing our
Calgary office for a series of 5 Saturday's. He doesn't have a problem with
us meeting there and setting up a small LAN with some hubs and such and
hooking up computers to that. HOWEVER...he under NO circumstances will
allow any foreign systems on the network AT ALL> He said he would
personally kill me if that happened. This is not his law, but that of the
company owners so nothing I can do about unless I want to get fired. He did
say that it would be ok to use a computer on the network if we needed to
look something up on the net or something like that. I will confirm with my
location manager next week if this would be ok for the 10-15 people that
expressed interest at the last meeting.

Also, I was at Nexus today picking up a copy of O'Rielly's Linux Pocket
Reference Guide (thanks for the suggestion whoever mentioned it to me) and
was looking to see if there was any other resources around. O'Rielly has a
book on the LPI certification covering tests 101 and 102 for about $60.00.
I was thinking that maybe either CLUG could purchase the book for the CLUG
library or perhaps the people studying for it could purchase it and donate
it to CLUG. Maybe CLUG could pay for half and the study group for half?

Seeing as CLUG is growing so fast, maybe we could look at exploring ways to
build a resource library or something like that. Using the LPI SG as an
example, maybe those wanting to participate in these types of activities
(study groups , etc.) could pay a minimal fee (like a Loonie) to participate
in the event. This money could then go to purchasing books or other
resources for things like the LPI SG or something like that.

Any thoughts on this or the meeting location?

Cameron

Would this happen in the mornings or afternoons?
Where is the office?
Is there some documentation on the deal that LPI is giving us? Is the deal for two tests at
$50 each?
I dont own a laptop, or a car. I'd like to attend, but lugging my comp around does not sound like fun. I could pick up a system from vfx, could arrangements be made to store it onsite? (perhaps in a locker or something?)
I have some old LPI manuals, I dont know how useable they are, but they are here if people would like to read them.

Looking forward to doing some learning.
