I would try installing Mesa, then installing the DRI drivers. The default OpenGL libs are from XFree86 and I'm not sure how effective (or current) they are. The DRI snapshot will build DRM kernel modules as well as DRI kernel driver modules, so there shouldn't be anything else you need after that. Let me know if it works.
