I am only trying to use this as an SMTP server for itself. The default install of Postfix is working great (sendmail was another story). I have a nagging feeling that pine is the problem, but mutt is just... so ugly! Is there any way to disable viewing ALL the headers with mutt?

Don't know if I can help you with Pine, but I'm curious what you are trying to do with your mail server.

Do you just want to be able to send mail out through your own computer? Or do you plan on hosting email accounts? If the first, then the default ssmtp that Gentoo installs is more than sufficient (I'm guessing you're on a Gentoo box from your earlier posts). So would be default installs of Postfix and Sendmail.

If, on the other hand you want email to be sent TO your server for processing and delivery to local accounts, then yes, you will need Postfix/Sendmail/qmail/etc. However, there is a ton of configuration that has to happen in all these before you can actually receive mail to your local mailboxes. Not to mention Domain name setup as well.

If you can give us some more info on what you are trying to do, then we can give you better advice on how to make it happen. :)

Subject: [clug-talk] Postfix and pine

You may have read my earlier thread about gentoo and sendmail. I have decided to ditch sendmail and go with postfix, but there is still one problem. Postfix has successfully sent mail from mutt, but I prefer to use pine. Pine is not working so well. When I try to send the message, pine hangs. At this point ^C and ^Z have no effect, forcing me to restart the computer. Does anyone know what might be going on?

Thanks,

Andrew Graupe

Why am I scared of Windows? Let's just say I will be glad I have my Knoppix CD.
