I ran into the same weird problem with SUSE 9.0 on my laptop and a desktop(two
different systems). I did an HTTP internet install, so I figured it would
configure my network card properly, but I was wrong. After the install was
done I had to go into YAST and configure the network card and then every
thing worked fine.

I'm not sure if it's the same problem for you, but that was my experience.

Thanks
Jason
