Instead of using "--exclude-from FILE" you could use "--exclude". Just throw all the "--exclude" options in an environment variable, and reference that. In this way it would be manageable as well. :-)

Thanks to all that posted.

I modified my exclude file to not use quotes, and specify the directories (i.e. Internet/* ). Next I changed my tar command as has been indicated. I'm still seeing the same behavior though. The moment I use "--exclude-from FILE", the tar command just ends with no errors.

I tried the --exclude option, and this seems to work fine. But I'd rather specify my excludes in a file - to be more manageable.

Any thoughts?
