I have created draft feature proposals for the two work strands at:

(And a new issue #1026 [1] to track the in-guest customization work.)
They are (very) early stage but I wanted to get them up for other
contributors to add feature ideas, use cases, and design/implementation
thoughts.

Dev list please... this is a general ASF practice, and critical to
allowing lurkers to observe (as well as for the community to help).
