The CORS error [0] would be related to the lack of a "Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *" header in the response from the Toolforge side. I don't see an access control header from either of https://whois.toolforge.org/whois/8.4.4.8/lookup/json or https://tools.wmflabs.org/whois/8.4.4.8/lookup/json. Is this a regression you are seeing from using the tools.wmflabs.org URL to access the tool or just a general question?
