thanks, that got me on the right track. it turns out that clojure.tools.namespace.dir/scan can do this. The reason I couldn't see the dependencies I was looking for was because I had managed to write (ns .. (require ...)) instead of (ns ... (:require ...)) in the files I was looking at. This caused the declaration parsing to miss the referred namespaces.
