What Mikera probably wants to demonstrate, and I agree with him, is that the slow startup time not being due to JVM proper, it's in the current implementation of Clojure that you must find what to do.
If you port Clojure piece by piece to another technology, you will probably get the same startup time problems ... minus the 0.1s taken by the JVM to start.
