Hmmm it seems to work for me: (+ 5 (matrix [1 2 3])) => #<Vector3 [6.0,7.0,8.0]>
What environment and what versions of vectorz-clj / Clojure are you using? Some of the older versions didn't support scalar to vector broadcasting so that might be the problem....
