One-time setup: ./antsetup.sh To build: ant Clojure has a form of tail recursion using the "recur" form within loops and within functions, but it does not do tail calls unless you use the recur form. I do not know the implementation details, but there are issues with the JVM and the way Clojure does interop calls to Java code that I believe make it difficult to implement tail calls, unless one does some kind of CPS (Continuation Passing Style) transformation on all of the code.
