I don't think I said anything like that at all :) JIRA is water under the bridge. Perhaps Clojure/core will adopt something else one day but currently that's what we have and it hasn't prevented great contributions. As far as losing dependence on the JVM, that would be a fun project but involves significant amounts of work and no one has offered up to lead such an endeavor.
