Randy,

If you don't want to use Aquamacs or Carbon Emacs and you don't want
to build from source, there are packaged builds of GNU Emacs for Mac
OS X at http://emacsformacosx.com/builds

You can get stable builds and nightly builds there. I find it
convenient.
