Clojure is an excellent choice when you want to integrate with Java libraries, as the interop is almost seamless. As Mike A. mentioned, writing fast numeric algorithms in pure Clojure is tricky, although the next release (currently 1.3.0-alpha) will make that easier, and you can always drop down to Java if needed.
