Sorry to have so many questions. I lookes at swank at github, it says it supports Emacs 23 and up; and I should use ELPA to install it.
The ELPA install page, explains how to install stuff for Emacs 21 and 22. As far as I understand, the Emacs init files dont support the usage of different EMacs versions.
