But perhaps the message: java.lang.Exception: Unmatched delimiter ')', expecting ']' Would be quite useful? It would tell the user that the unmatched delimiter was inside the [] block. Some languages go a step further, and highlight syntax errors directly with some ASCII art: Unmatched delimiter: (let [x map inc nums)] ^ Though that seems quite tricky to do within the limits of Java's exception handling.
