What exactly do you mean by systems programming? If you mean hardware stuff that's outside the scope of the JVM, then no, I doubt it. However, I am hard pressed to think of situations that you can code with Java SE (dunno about ME) that you can't handle with Clojure. Now that I think about it, I think Clojure would be better a daemon stuff than most other tools because of the STM.
