I would suggest the following: 1. Thinking in Java by Bruce Eckel I learned C++ by reading Thinking in C++ by the same author so it was a natural progression to move on to this book. It's very big but then so is the Java language :) 2. Effective Java by Joshua Bloch Not for learning Java but excellent for learning how to write quality Java code. A must read IMO. 3.
