I do agree - it hit workers in other industries much severely than ours. We
probably should try to help them. However, many of us have been in the
software building business for many years. We know "the logistics" of the
processes involved, and maybe we could somehow figure out a way to help our
unfortunate colleagues that losing their jobs in these desperate times.

Maybe we could find open-source projects they can improve and work on while
being unemployed? The projects we've been using for years without paying a
dime. Perhaps those of us who are fortunate to have jobs still could donate
a few bucks for everyone's benefit?
