Dear Val,

thank you for the detailed clarification of the facts with "Hans S.".
It's good that you have now banned this troublemaker and his time here is over
now and forever.

Hans is in Germany, a typical name of a Faker or troublemaker πŸ˜‰.

Your PS is really neat: Not needed to explain something of you in detail, I do
understood more I say ❀️.
Some Steps in Live must be taken to going good - Chapeau Val, for this massive
step.

So, now we are going back to normal again πŸ™‚.

kind regards
Marc

Re: [clamav-users] Snyder fascist
Hey everyone,

I am kind of tickled to be targeted in this way. It's cute, if you know the
backstory, and I kind of cute if you don't.

Hans S. (koffie), I feel obligated to ban you for what is obviously offensive
language even if I think it's funny. You already received 1 warning (see
below). I recommend moderating your emotions better when you communicate with
other communities in the future.

For anyone who is curious, the backstory I'm aware of is as follows:

Hans wrote to the
clamav-users-ow...@lists.clamav.net<mailto:clamav-users-ow...@lists.clamav.net>
account (i.e. the admin account for this mailing list) back on September 12,
2024. I never received this email, though I can see it in Hans next reply,
dated December 10, 2024, wherein he said it was his third attempt writing to
the mailer and worried no one was receiving it. It is the first email I can
find in my inbox from Hans.

On the same day, Hans attempted to subscribe with emails titled or containing
the words "subscribe" from his koffie-email address and from another address.

On December 13th Hans sent a message titled "Provocation and oppression since
the first contact" to the clamav-users list and again received the automated
response, "Please subscribe to the list in order to post." Then he immediately
responded with a message titled, "mcfarland you provoke, oppress communication,
subscribing, support" and sent to:
supp...@githubsupport.com<mailto:supp...@githubsupport.com>,
clamav-users-ow...@lists.clamav.net<mailto:clamav-users-ow...@lists.clamav.net>,
 and notificati...@github.com<mailto:notificati...@github.com>.

For context, McFarland is our primary website administrator, working in a team
adjacent to my own. I'm not really sure where Hans got his name from.
Anyways... this was the first email I noticed, as I don't check the list as
often as I probably should. I admit I am more distracted these days than I have
been in the past, for a handful of reasons that I won't get into.

I replied on the same day to explain that mailing list subscriptions do not
require an action on our part and that I don't check the list admin inbox every
day. I told them how to subscribe via
https://lists.clamav.net/mailman/listinfo/clamav-users. In my response, I also
warned that if you insult, berate, or post nonsensical content you will be
banned.

On Dec 25, 2024, Hans successfully emailed the clamav-users mailer for the
first time, asking if others could see their email because previous attempts
did not get any response. See the email titled, "Cool Blocking by ClamAV". On a
tangent, Merry Christmas!

On Jan 6 through Jan 8, 2025, Hans asked for help with "cool blocking", sharing
Freshclam log messages that indicate a DNS configuration issue which prevented
them from looking up database.clamav.net. The log messages included: "Invalid
DNS reply. Falling back to HTTP mode." and "Could not resolve hostname". In
response, Lyle Giese correctly identified the issue as a DNS issue. Thanks,
Lyle!

Since the community correctly identified the cause of the issue and Hans did
not reply after this, I made no attempt to assist.

Hans' next message wasn't until Jan 30th, subject "Snyder fascist". So here
are. Goodbye Hans!

Cheers,
Val

P.S.: My name is Val now. It's a bit of a pain, but I've decided to rip off the
band-aid and update my name at work. I haven't updated my email
address/username yet. I might. I'm not sure. It's... a lot of work.

same here Matus, this is simply BS what the user said.

We all try to help with all of our knowledge and experience, because that's why
this mailing list exists, but if we don't get any answers, how can we help?
Right - it's impossible to help!

If the thread is too difficult or requires help from ClamAV, i.e. Micah, the
user can certainly send an e-mail directly to Micah, as his @cisco.com e-mail
address is always visible.
Can speak for me only, but if the free time exists, I get always answer from
Micah!
I really don't understand this fuss!
