OK, I know this is months “overdue”.
I’m working on upgrading my office’s ClamAV to 1.0.7.
I’ve reached the system that’s running “clamav-milter”.
It appears that the RHEL Linux version of provides man pages for
ClamAV-milter, but I don’t seem to see other files for clamav-milter.
Is another RPM required, or am I missing something about how
clamav-milter operates under the 1.0.7 version.
Noticing immediately that the clamav-milter did not start.
As a result, I’ve reverted back to prior version.
Any help/pointers would be appreciated.
Most distribution package sets for ClamAV will include packages for each
major component - clamd, freshclam, and the milter shim are usually in
different packages IME, along with three or four more supporting packages.
I haven't had much contact with any distro using RPM in a while, but I'd
find it odd to have the milter component man pages without the binaries.
Try "rpm -qa |grep -i clam" to see what ClamAV-related packages are
installed, or "rpm -qf /path/to/manpage-file" to see what package owns
the manpage. You might also try "rpm -q --what-provides
/path/to/clamav-milter-file" if you know the path to one of the milter
components you're looking for, although with an existing old package
installed I'm not sure this will give a useful answer.
Various components *do* get moved from package to package now and then,
although usually by way of splitting functionality out into additional
packages.
Do you know where the currently installed packages came from? It looks
like the ones provided by the upstream ClamAV team don't include the
milter components for some build-system-rough-spot reason (see
https://docs.clamav.net/manual/Installing.html). IIRC from when I was
on a RHEL-alike, ClamAV was in the EPEL repository.
