There are google hits indicating that people get this message: > WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED! > WARNING: Local version: {something} Recommended version: {newer} > DON'T PANIC! Read http://www.clamav.net/support/faq
I've gotten that message with a different version. I'm not trying to critique the styling of "OUTDATED" or the general presentation of the message. What concerns me today is what I should do as a Hitchhiker. I brought my towel to a new job recently. When I arrived, I read "Don't Panic". And then I followed the link. That url redirects to http://www.clamav.net/documents/troubleshooting-faq Which doesn't really talk about the error-state. What it does say is: > How many times per hour shall I run freshclam? > If you are running ClamAV 0.7x please upgrade now. > If you are running ClamAV 0.8x or later... (The people asking about this are running 0.9x) That's a problem. I'm glad you provided a url and told me not to panic. But by sending me to a page that doesn't talk about my problem, you've caused me (and anyone else who has hit that message, and I know I'm not alone because I can see posts to various lists with varying ClamAV versions about this message) to panic, at least a bit. https://www.clamav.net/documents/upgrading-clamav talks about the error message... I'd like to suggest that the URL "http://www.clamav.net/support/faq" be treated as a URL that *should* cover this error message. In fact, I can't find any pages on the internet that directly link to this url that are not just ML posts about this error message. As such, it seems like the url could be split off to just cover this case. You might be able to start w/ the upgrading-clamav article, but while it talks about the error, it isn't very helpful. It also suffers from problems that I identified in my previous email, as in: > Make sure there is really only one version of ClamAV installed on your > system: $ whereis freshclam $ whereis clamscan There should be line breaks before each `$` Here's the general markup:
Make sure there is really only one version of ClamAV installed on your system:
$ whereis freshclam

$ whereis clamscan

Note that linebreaks in html do not magically get converted into linebreaks in rendered content... Thanks for your time and attention. _______________________________________________ clamav-users mailing list clamav-users@lists.clamav.net http://lists.clamav.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/clamav-users Help us build a comprehensive ClamAV guide: https://github.com/vrtadmin/clamav-faq http://www.clamav.net/contact.html#ml
