Thanks for the response!
Sorry I'm a total newbie, so please bare with me.

I did see that url, as well as go over the Clam Antivirus 0.99.2 User
Manual. Neither seemed to help.
Should have included the OS info in original post. I'm attempting to
install ClamAV version 0.99.2 onto a CentOS 7 system (5 user accounts on
the system) and would like to install in a manner that would allow the
program to have as much access as needed to be able to perform full system
scans. The system will mostly be used by multiple users for internet,
email, and word processing. Maybe games too.

My confusion starts with section 3.2 of the Clam Antivirus 0.99.2 User
Manual where it mentions installing on a 'shell account'. It mentions an
assumption of home directory '/home/gary'. That makes me think that
particular installation method would only be for a system with one user
account (in their example 'gary').

Section 3.3 then provides steps to add new system user, and group, but the
last line ends with 'Don't forget to lock access to the account!' then
provides no assistance as to how to go about doing that.

If I install on a shell account, will the software have the ability to
perform full system scans?

If not, and I need to install as a new clamav user, how do I securely set
that up?

Any additional insight outside of those two questions would also be greatly
appreciated.
