I just set up a Slackware 10.2 VM. I installed openssl 0.9.8y to /opt/custom and passed in --with-openssl=/opt/custom to the ./configure script for ClamAV. Compilation succeeded with both RC1 and the current 0.98.4 code on GitHub. Are you passing in --with-openssl=[PATH] to ClamAV's ./configure script?
