FreeBSD 7 doesn't and shouldn't have a /usr/include/spawn.h. Perhaps see this thread here:

This error is caused by a rogue /usr/include/spawn.h which might be left over if you previously tried to upgrade to 8.x and then downgraded back to 7.x later.
Remove /usr/include/spawn.h and gettext will build again.
Don't remove /usr/include/spawn.h if you're on 8.x!"

PS: Note that FreeBSD 7.2 went EOL around May 2009.
Consider upgrading to something newer listed in http://www.freebsd.org/security/security.html#sup
yeah, I know, but 7.2 is working great.

upgrading to 9.2 underway, but I thought I'd up clamav on the production server, figured it would be quick an easy.

there is no /usr/include/spawn.h, only:

locate spawn.h
/usr/local/include/glib-2.0/glib/gspawn.h
/usr/local/include/gtk-2.0/gdk/gdkspawn.h

thanks
