Hi,

Until yesterday, I was running the clam daemon (0.96.2) and able to establish a
tcp socket connection. Then I updated the database and started seeing duplicate
start messages and a warning to update. So I updated to 0.96.3.

Now I cannot establish a tcp connection. I can run the scan tests, but no joy
from my GUI or command line client. I installed this from source, followed the
uninstall directions and installed (twice uninstalled and installed now).

I ran /configure --disable-clamav prior to make and make install. 7 tests ran
successfully, 5 were not run. Incidentally, the 0.96.3 install kept giving me
the bzip2 message and even though I found instructions that said it's okay to
install anyway, there was no joy with that version, so I tried to move back to
0.962 using a tar left on my machine from an earlier installation. The 0.96.3
source installation would continue to behave badly, not able to make /lib dirs
and even trying to put a Microsoft dir on there. I would assume the default
download was not Windows specific but who knows. I went with the prior version
which I thought was tried and true.

Now I feel my clamd installation and system are hopelessly screwed up. Can
anyone speak to how to recover from a bad upgrade and virus definition update?
The documentation is not helping.

Thanks. Sorry to sound so frustrated, but I've sunk an entire day on this and I
have a deadline of Thursday.
