Hi.

I have been following the thread about "EOL" and "Move to next version of
clamav"
which stopped a few mailservers ... I do not want to take sides here,
this is NOT what this email is about.

This is a suggestion.

Simply to make sure that everyone gets the message NEXT time
wouldn't it be possible to let "freshclam" warn people
and put a message into the (freshclam) logs like:

"WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is END OF LIFE!"
"WARNING: this version of clamav (X.Y.Z) will be EOL soon!"
 "PLEASE PANIC: Read http://www.clamav.net/support/faq/panic";

Maybe even send an email to the admin address with the same content?

Please point the page to a page which describes the problem straight away
not onto the first page of the FAQ, so people really get the message.

For people who have OLDER versions of OS's [1] maybe have a webpage
showing how to quickly compile a new version???

Just an idea.

[1] there are valid reasons not to upgrade.

 * I used to look after a system that had some hardware on it
with drivers for a particular OS
 * I used to look after a system that had software on it
that cost a fortune relying on a certain OS.
 * SME's sometime do not have the money but prefer Linux!!!
