Hello list,

Is FreeBSD (8.0-STABLE) to blame for this one?

See unit_tests/test-suite.log

What does unit_tests/test-suite.log contain?

Does it fail everytime, or is it a random failure?

We had a similar bugreport (check_clamd failing randomly) on Solaris, and it turned out to be faulty system RAM (or a bug in the old version of the Solaris kernel).
