I am fairly new to Linux but have a Debian 4 Desktop installation with
clamav and clamd running on it.
On top of this I am running ASSP (http://assp.sourceforge.net) to do
Anti-Spam, which ties into clamd for anti-virus.

What I'm finding is that it takes an hour after booting until the
socket /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl appears.
Until that time, ASSP can't use ClamAV, and after that I have to
restart ASSP for it to finally recognize it.

It occurs to me that the 1 hour delay is due to freshclam being set to
run 24 times a day (once an hour).

Can anyone suggest a way for me to make the socket appear at bootup?
I had wondered about running freshclam from /etc/rc.local but as a
test when I ran freshclam from the command line it said it couldn't
lock the database directory /var/lib/clamav and sure enough adding
freshclam to /etc/rc.local made no difference.

Thanks for any pointers.

Alex
