Sometimes it just means the first line of defense is working. Most of 
the mail I get is blocked by anti-spam tools that are far less costly to 
run than anti-virus. I've no doubt many of those messages have a virus 
payload in them, but they're rejected before the scan stage. I don't 
accept *.doc, *.exe, etc files as attachments so they're never scanned.

However - the systems I run ClamAV on are primarily logging viruses 
found with Steve Basford's database files. Yesterday there were 225 
found "viruses" of which only four were matches with patterns provided 
by ClamAV. All were phishing or html.
