Sometimes it just means the first line of defense is working. Most of the mail I get is blocked by anti-spam tools that are far less costly to run than anti-virus. I've no doubt many of those messages have a virus payload in them, but they're rejected before the scan stage. I don't accept *.doc, *.exe, etc files as attachments so they're never scanned. However - the systems I run ClamAV on are primarily logging viruses found with Steve Basford's database files. Yesterday there were 225 found "viruses" of which only four were matches with patterns provided by ClamAV.
