I don't think OS X comes with wget by default. You might want to have a curl option too if you want to support OS X. I think Bill's script does this IIRC, which may be the main reason why I am using his. I think I needed to tweak it slightly too, but it's been working well for some time, so I don't think it's critical if you don't care to support OS X.
