What OS and platform? I have had load problems with clamd running 100% on Solaris 9 (V480, quad UltraSPARC III 900MHz). I moved ClamAV to a Linux (Fedora 7 x86_64 on dual Xeon 2.8GHz) this week, and that system runs ~90% idle (it did get down to 85% idle once).
