Your problem is the startup time of clamscan, and has been discussed endlessly on this list. Clamdscan avoids that startup time, by keeping it running. Does your commercial scanner quit when it is finished, or is it calling some background process that stays running? (Like clamdscan does...) More recent (and older...) versions of clamscan also have faster startups, so this is being worked on. Daniel T.
