It happened again last night - for some reason the freshclam could not
connect to the update site and for some reason it looks like it never
times out and keeps running. This somehow causes the clamav milter to
die. I'll go through the logs and see if I can get some more details,
but in the mean time is anyone else experiencing and similiar problems
like this?

Greg,
I use Monit (http://www.tildeslash.com/monit/) not only does it email
you but it can also restart the services, it can also monitor a
lot of
other tings on the system.
