Hello,

Yesterday I ugraded clamav to 90.1. All went fine and the software worked
well but today in the morning clamd retreived new signatures and:

Mar 16 11:34:10 192 freshclam[36963]: Database updated (99431 signatures)
from db.pl.clamav.net (IP: 212.14.28.36)

followed by:

Mar 16 11:36:00 192 clamd[38011]: reload db failed: Unable to lock
database directory (try 1)

Fortunately I have been tailing the log so I was able to quickly find out what happened and recover (otherwise mailserver did not want to accept mail).

A coincidence or is this something I should be worried about?

Thank you very much!

I too had a similar problem this morning.
For the first time ever my Clamd log showed the following.....

"Thu Mar 15 05:08:10 2007 -> SelfCheck: Database modification detected. Forcing reload. Thu Mar 15 05:08:11 2007 -> Reading databases from /usr/local/share/ clamav Thu Mar 15 05:10:21 2007 -> ERROR: reload db failed: Unable to lock database directory (try 1) Thu Mar 15 05:12:31 2007 -> ERROR: reload db failed: Unable to lock database directory (try 2) Thu Mar 15 05:14:42 2007 -> ERROR: reload db failed: Unable to lock database directory (try 3) Thu Mar 15 05:14:42 2007 -> ERROR: reload db failed: Unable to lock database directory Thu Mar 15 05:14:42 2007 -> Terminating because of a fatal error.Thu Mar 15 05:14:42 2007 -> Socket file removed.

Thu Mar 15 05:14:42 2007 -> --- Stopped at Thu Mar 15 05:14:42 2007"

Running Clamav-0.90.1 on a Fedora Core 6 System with amavisd-new, dovecot and postfix.
I did not enable experimental when configuring.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as it was several hours before I spotted this and manually restarted clamd.
Oddly, mail was still being delivered, but without any virus checks ??

Many thanks.
