You might want to make sure that you kill all of the running clamav processes first as a precaution. Also, if you have not all ready, place the following in the '/etc/rc.conf' file. clamav_clamd_enable="YES" clamav_freshclam_enable="YES" Make any changes you require to both the /usr/local/etc/clamd.conf and freshclam.conf files. Reboot and you should be good to go.
