Hi,

I've been asked to investigate the possibility of running clamav on
Microsoft Exchange, perhaps in an SMTP event sink or using the MS API.

I understand that the usual approach is to run clam on a *nix box, and I'm already familiar with that approach.

I also note an interesting discussion back at around about

  http://lurker.clamav.net/message/20041109.011042.dbae00dd.en.html

of setups that scan for viruses in mail already spooled to the user's
mailbox.

Pointers to implementations of these or similar ideas, be they free
software or commercial, would be very much appreciated.

Discussion of why this may or may not be a good idea is welcomed.

There is the possibilty that, in the absense of suitable existing implementations, we might look to develop something. Suggestions
on how best to proceed and offers of help are also welcome.

Thanks

Regards,
Paddy

Paddy,
I am in a similar situtation. Having been tasked with moving 6000+ *nix based accounts over to Exchange I am thinking about doing the following... I dont want to run a windows platdform based AV (load on box + unreliability of MS... +100 others) so i am going to force all mail to and from the box to be routed throuigh a linux smarthost where i will run clamd, sophos using exim (which we currently do anyhow...).

Its what im gonna do however as always YMMV...
